Opening Up: What Surprises Lurk within your Aerodrome?
Depending on the nature of the COVID-19 outbreak in your area, aerodrome operations may have ground to a halt, barely hiccuped or maybe even increased. For those in the first category, that have struggled through intermittent and/or prolonged lockdowns, the end could be insight. But getting going again could be fraught with insidious risks.

Creating a Free Airport Safety Reporting & Management System
Safety reporting is the life-blood of a modern safety management system. In the early days of implementation, a great deal of effort was (and still is) expended in increasing the reporting of safety events (incidents and other occurrences) and hazards. As an industry, we’ve discussed and debated no-blame and just cultures. We’ve promulgated policies and waved flags, telling our team members that we can’t manage what we don’t measure. And we’ve implemented safety occurrence reporting systems to capture all this information.
If we’ve been successful in these endeavours, we’ve then faced a new problem - what do we do with all these reports? A classic case of be careful what you wish for!
Free iBook: Remote Strip Operations
In what started out as a little experimenting with the iBooks Author program, I have put together a book for remote airstrip operators.
ATI Inspector Form
Very few aerodromes I visit take the time to make sure the person or persons who carry out their aerodrome technical inspections meet the qualification and experience requirements laid out in CASR 139.240. So, to help you out, I developed an easy to use form that helps guide you through the process and satisfy the record keeping expectations of regulators.

Obstacle Limitation Surface 3D Visualisation
Here is the product of a couple more nights drawing on my mac. They are the MOS 139 compliant (or there abouts) obstacle limitation surfaces for the main runway at Brisbane Airport.

Aerodrome Reporting - in a Flowchart
Aerodrome Reporting Flowchart - Landscape - v0.2 I like to sit at my computer and draw things, despite the fact that I'm no artist. A couple of weeks ago, I thought I would have a go at putting the various aerodrome reporting requirements, the procedures you might find in that section of the aerodrome manual, into a flowchart to help out anyone who is a bit confused by the various requirements.
Airservices NOTAM Form
Airservices NOTAM Form - ARO Version This NOTAM form has been in the wild now for nearly (or is that over) a year now, so I'm hoping most Australian aerodrome operators are aware of it, if not using it. Anyway, I'm working on another little reporting tool at the moment and having a quick link to this document on the blog would be helpful.
