Introducing the 2023 Blogathon (with a little artificial help)

This is a terrible idea. I’ve got a lot to do right now, but I’ve somehow convinced myself that some new technology can help me do this. So, here goes…

“This”, in this context, is to write 31 blog posts in 31 days.

This “new technology” is ChatGPT, a language model and artificial intelligence platform that can generate amazing, natural language text from your prompts. And not just one-off prompts. Instead, you can interact with it in a discussion to refine and develop the text it generates.

In its own words, “ChatGPT is a large language model developed by OpenAI. It was trained on a dataset of billions of words. As a result, it can generate human-like text by predicting the next word in a sentence based on the context of the words that come before it.”

In practical terms, ChatGPT can fill a variety of needs. So far today, it has helped me brainstorm ideas and write a draft of this post (see below). Over the past month or so, I’ve used it to provide background research, write computer code, and help me learn some stuff I’ve struggled with for some time. I have developed a sort of relationship with this thing that is similar to a personal assistant.

The clever folks at OpenAI also created DALL-E. This AI model makes artwork from a text prompt, and I’ve used it to generate some header art and other artwork I will use this month.

Well, that is my human-written introductory post and below is what the bot generated for me. Unfortunately, I may be out of a job.

Welcome to the 2023 blogathon! For the next 31 days, we will be sharing a series of blog posts on airport operations, safety, and regulation. Our previous blog posts have included discussions on airport safety risk management, accident analysis, and wildlife hazard management, but we will be covering a wide range of topics this month.

Before we dive into the blog posts, we want to introduce you to ChatGPT, the language model we will be using to help generate ideas and research for our blog posts. ChatGPT is a large language model developed by OpenAI. It was trained on a dataset of billions of words and is able to generate human-like text by predicting the next word in a sentence based on the context of the words that come before it.

We will be using ChatGPT to help us brainstorm ideas for our blog posts and to assist with research and writing. By using ChatGPT, we hope to bring you fresh and informative content on a wide variety of airport-related topics.

Throughout the month, we will be covering a range of topics, including passenger tracking technology, the impact of COVID-19 on airport operations, handling extreme weather events, airport certification processes, airport security pre-check and preferred customer programs, and much more. We hope that you will join us on this journey and learn something new about airports and aviation along the way.

We are excited to share our knowledge and insights with you and we hope that you will find our blog posts informative and engaging. We look forward to your feedback and comments on our posts, so feel free to reach out to us with any questions or suggestions.

Thank you for joining us on the 2023 blogathon! We hope you enjoy the ride.
